These are planning ranges. Equipment brands span a wide quality (and price) spectrum, and your roof, DB board and usage pattern all move the number — the honest path is a site assessment and two or three written quotes.
What actually drives the price
1. Battery capacity — the budget's biggest lever
Lithium batteries are the most expensive component per unit of usefulness. Doubling storage from 5kWh to 10kWh can add tens of thousands. Size the battery to your evening essentials, not your daytime peak — a good installer starts by asking what must stay on and for how long, not by quoting a package.
2. Panels and your roof
Panels themselves are the cheap part now; mounting and roof type matter more. North-facing pitched tile or IBR is straightforward; flat roofs need tilt frames; asbestos roofs shouldn't be drilled and complicate everything. Shade from trees or neighbouring buildings quietly kills production — insist the assessment addresses it.
3. Your DB board and wiring
Older homes often need DB board work before an inverter can be integrated safely — a split between essential and non-essential circuits is standard practice. This is real electrical work and it belongs in the quote, not discovered as an "extra" on installation day.
4. The two compliance items — non-negotiable
